THE SHOOTS: The Robyn Chronicles

This past weekend, I was able to get my first taste of life on a film set. I am interested in all aspects of film production. I am on set for wardrobe but one day I’d love to write, direct, and maybe even play an acting role in a television show or movie.

I made sure to listen to everything on set of The Robyn Chronicles being talked about between Kim Swingler, the show’s creator, co-producer and lead actor; Courtney Jean Allen, co-producer, and cast member; and the sound tech mixer and director. I learned a number of new terms, especially when it came to lines, and the fight scene. There was a fight trainer, and stunt coordinator on set to make sure the fight scene looked real, and everyone was kept safe.

Call time was as early at 5:30a.m. in Prospect Park, in Brooklyn, NY. Myself, Kat Dolly Black, Kim, Courtney, Tamala DeJesus (plays Urika Wright), Derron Campbell the director and Gin the sound guy walked to the location of the ficitonal Knollwood Forest. We then went to Bedstuy to film the group home scene with Lena Martin, Okema Moore, who play Erika and Briana. Then off to Kingston Avenue for two scenes with Kim who plays title character, Robyn and Jessica Castro who plays Jalicia.

This is a dream come true. Dressing characters in a series. We have to keep in mind the nature and the personality of the characters, and be sure to keep it consistent within the series. Each girl, has a distinct personality and role in the series and it is up to us to be sure we present that visually. We played with camouflage or army theme with Urika’s character, for Erika we made sure to accentuate her fit body but make sure she looked tough enough for a group home, Kim is a wild, quirky home invader, Courtney is funky, yet casual, leaving Jalicia with the more fitted, and sexy look. Each character pretty much embodies a different aspect of all women, with traits we can all relate to.

I do not want to give away too much. I want you all to tune into the show which is sure to be AMAZING! I have to give a big shout out to all of the powerful, creative and talented women who are making The Robyn Chronicles happen, and not only that but really putting in the work to make it really good. The quality of the acting, the script and production team is unbelievable. I am so proud to be a part of this project! Stay tuned for more!
