ORNG Ink Group Exhibit: Opening Reception @ Hat City Kitchen!

I am proud to announce the newest exhibit in the Hat City Kitchen gallery. The third show in the dining room, following Catfish Friday’s arts collective will be making it’s debut this weekend! This is a huge opportunity for the emerging and resident artists in their careers.

The Return of #interndiaries: Jack Shainman Gallery!

I am so proud to announce the return of #interndiaries! Posts where I reflect on my experience interning. I started doing so when I interned for GQ Fashion editor, Michael Nash last fall. I liked being able to write about the new things, and people I came across, but more importantly I liked sharing what I learned. There are a lot of different experiences people have as interns in the entertainment business, there are horror stories and success stories.

I have interned at different places and I know this to definitely to be true. I was getting bored in the Valley and I wanted to try something different, make a little money on the side, learn more about the arts and culture, and networking. I landed a pretty sweet gig gallery sitting at Jack Shainman Gallery in Chelsea, NYC.

I started Friday night at the opening reception of Brad Kahlhamer’s Full of Feathers. A exhibition featuring paintings, and the installation, Bowery Nation which includes over 100 figurines made of found objects. Here are some pictures, and look forward to the biweekly #interndiaries posts!

Last Saturday, I think is a representation of the spirit ORNG Ink has. We took a time of disappointment, and decided to run with it! OKTOBERFEST was a much bigger success than any of us could’ve ever hoped for. Before the event Ra

We wanted to A) do something that was completely ORNG Ink style B) Everyone of all ages to feel welcome and C) have fun!

At the family and friends party I tasted the BaROCK YOUR SOCKS OFF brew for the first time and it was pretty good. It was definitely more for the person with an extensive beer palette. The bottles looks so cute in the label designed by Laura Campbell. People were very impressed with the finished product. It was unfortunate that Andy, our beer professor and master couldnt make it. We hope that we can work together for a third original brew.

Mindy Fullilove kicked off the festivities by starting the community earth oven fire. Luckily we were able to be joined by Juggla, the brick oven pizza making genius who started to do his thing. Valley Arts was having an event in the Firehouse, so we got some foot traffic. People walked in the gallery and examined the group art show also curated by Laura, tasted the beer and enjoyed delicious pizza.

ORNG INk’s sideyard, often referred to as, Freddy’s Yard was packed with people of all ages. The AIM Squad and some of their friends from Orange High School, Chef Jesse, local Valley artist, Terrie Boddie and his daughter Jai Bronson Boddie (who has a poem in the The ABC Series), Richard Bryant, and more. People were really having a good time.

The weather was perfect to create a cool, indoor/outdoor party and people alternated between both party locales. Everyone that stopped by stayed for a long time. Mindy had the great idea of starting the fire pit and making smores. Then, AIM Squad performed some of their music for the first time, and Soundbox veteran, Sykez did his thing!

The night was truly magical and it was an event for family and friends. Just what we wanted. I can not wait till next year!

Molly, Laura, and I love planning events and once we saw that what we hoped did not work out, we decided to do what ORNG Ink does best, throw a party! We had all this art from past ORNG Ink artists, and this beer we have been waiting for people to taste, a zine release coming & it has been forever since we baked anything in our earth oven…so we decided to throw a family and friends celebration to celebrate the new season.

ORNG Ink’s OKTOBERFEST! A Day for Family & Friends!

Saturday, October 12 ORNG ink will be hosting their first annual OKTOBER FEST here at the Ironworks Gallery. There will be a lots of events and activities for members, and friends and family!

BEER TASTING: A couple months ago ORNG Ink and the University of Orange hosted their second round of beer making classes with Andy, the beer master and we brewed our version of the Obama Honey Porter Ale, called BaROCK Your Socks OFF! We brewed over 40 bottles and want to have the official tasting with our 21+ friends and family members.

GROUP ART EXHIBIT: We are calling it the “Legacy Show”. All artists who have ever exhibited in the Ironworks Gallery we reached out to them to donate a piece for a group show! We are sure to get some great pieces from Monique Norris, Stephen Batiz, Anj Ferrara, Vaughn P., Vladimir Jean, Khari Ricks & more!

zine release: This is the event to get your hands on the Fall issue of masConsumption! The ABC Series is a short story anthology featuring writers, poets, song writers and more in the area, New York City and across the world!

#ValleyWeDesign Part Duex!

Tuesday night, a group of people interested in the future of the Valley Arts District came together once again to further discuss some ideas, concerns, and possibilities. It was such an interesting group of people coming from different parts of Orange, NJ and different perspectives. Residents, staff of organizations like HANDS, Inc. and ValleyArts, Inc who have a stake in the growth of the neighborhood, Valley socialites like myself and Molly, Mindy Fullilove, Laura Sacks, a school nurse, even a child. There were many of the same concerns, and ideas such as more outdoor public spaces, especially for events, public art to invite people into the neighborhood, and increasing a feeling of safety. We have come up with a lot of good ideas, and it seems that things are moving fast.

Here are some of the ideas we discussed:

Identifying the Valley’s style and identity. Elements unique to the district.
Highland Station, more pedestrian friendly, more accesible)
Entrance murals
safety and lighting
More sustainable businesses
relationships to the city

I highly suggest than anyone who wants to live in the Valley, or want to be a part of a change, get involved. I find that I am very fortunate to even be asked what I want for this neighborhood. It makes me feel good when I think that I had a part to play in this, even if it is small. My input made a difference. My voice was heard.

Here is a little more information based on questions and feedback I have been receiving about the call for writers and poets for the story anthology in the Fall 2013 zine issue:

Deadline for all submissions: October 1st, 13. Send work to zinefeature@gmail.com, or go to submissions page for more information.
CONTENT:
- Stories, poems, verses can be about anything you want to write about. Content can be unfinished, excerpts, etc.
- 26 writers will be submitted to this issue
- The only requirement is that your piece MUST HAVE A TITLE.
When sending your work, please provide, author name (you can also remain anonymous), age, where you are from, blog or social media you’d like to share
DISTRIBUTION: This issue will debut Saturday October 12, 13 during this year’s annual VAMP (Valley Arts Music and Poetry) Festival in New Jersey’s Valley Arts District in the Pat n Kat Pop-Up Shop Event at Ironworks Studio.

Big Congrats to The Bone Artist, Tia Jannah!

The talented Bone Artist, Tia Jannah sold one of her most acclaimed pieces from her Rhythm Series. I had the pleasure of seeing it in person at the exhibit at the Jazz Station in Newark. Ever since then, she has been on a roll! Featured in Montclair Times, another exhibit in New York City and now she sold one!

Pictures really do not do it justice, so whoever bought the piece is very lucky! They get to see that beautiful piece of art everyday. Here is some pictures, of the piece.
