WRITING EXERCISE: This is How I Feel…
As a kid, I journaled almost daily, and it was soo helpful as a release. As I got older, and with social media. I do not get the impulse as much. But when I find the time, it feels damn good. For University of Orange / Rosa Parks Adult School spring semester I have been teaching blogging & helping facilitate. Last week, it was slow so Bette Bland, who is teaching spoken word, led a poetry workshop with myself, Ray Sykes, Jamy Lasell, and Khemani Gibson.
I followed this writing prompt: This is How I Feel…how to write a poem and speak it out loud
This is how I feel about_________
1. Make 6 statements that set context or a feeling or lead to a climax/turning point.
2. Make the 7th statement a question.
3. Make 8th, 9th, and 10th more statements that can answer the question. They can be different responses.
4. The last four can be reflections or repetitions.
WHAT WE LOVE: Daddy’s Greek Potato Pie by CC Minton
Daddy’s Greek Potato Pie tells the story of a school-aged boy as he and his friend help his father create a healthy, delicious, and nutritious vegetable pie from scratch. Throughout the story, as the pie is made, the boys go on a journey of self-discovery about nutrition, health, and everything from fiber to fats.
Children love hearing the story because it’s educational and includes some fun and silly moments.
Dylan and Drew both love Daddy’s Greek Potato Pie – your kid will too!
WHAT WE LOVE: GET OUT!
This is one of the first times in a very long time I left a movie theater and felt, I just saw a film. I am beyond impressed with Jordan Peele, the cast, and crew. The film tropes, terrific acting, and Allison Williams, from one of my favorite shows. I had a very interesting conversation with my boyfriend, his brother and his boyfriend on our way back. And I realized even I can be insensitive to black men in America’s daily struggles. Please be sure to see the film about systematic racism, interracial relationships & more!
WHAT WE LOVE is a column on our blog where the editors, and contributors talk about some of what they are obsessed with at the moment. Tv, movies, books, blogs, etc. Want to contribute to WHAT WE LOVE? send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
